Contact our Recruiters by filling out the CVFD contact form. You will be contacted to come in for an interview with the membership committee.
The Committee will go over what membership in the Department means, types of membership if you are unsure, requirements to become and stay a member and answer any questions you have. The interview goes over our By-Laws explaining our rules and regulations. They will answer any questions you have on physical requirements of various duties we perform and what is done at the District Medical Qualification physical. You will be asked to fill out a more detailed application with character and work references so we may conduct a full background check since our duties require the utmost in public trust and integrity. There is a $15 application fee that covers the background check and first years dues. The Application is then turned over to the Membership.
The Membership will bring up the application and contents along with your picture at the next monthly meeting. A member transferring from another Fire Dept. must get a letter of recommendation from their former Fire Chief along with copies of any training records they have. It will be posted for 30 days to get references and background checks.
If all checks are favorable and completed in 30 days, the membership will vote on you as a member. Once voted in, you be asked to come to the next available meeting to get sworn in.
After being sworn in as a member, the Secretary will advise the Fire District at their next scheduled meeting (usually the Second Tues of the Month) of you wishes to join as an Active Member.
This must be approved by the Fire District to get you enrolled as a firefighter with insurance and get a medical exam scheduled. With District approval and passing your physical, you can be issued gear and start coming to alarms in limited capacity and under supervision to see what goes on and how we operate. You will be on one year of Probation to receive minimum training required and make sure you can meet the minimum attendance to stay an Active Member. It is strongly recommended to attend all activities, drills and training you can while on probation and not just the minimum.
The whole process of Application to being sworn in, takes about 6-8 weeks, but could be longer if paperwork and background checks are slow. With this in mind, let your work and character references know of your intentions and provide us with current addresses and phone numbers of all references.
Before attending the physical exam, you will be provided with paperwork to fill out so you don’t have to spend time filling out these forms at the Medical Office. This also gives you a chance to look up info for the medical questionnaire if you are unsure.
